The Founder and General Overseer of the Flaming Evangelical Ministry, Bishop Dr Abu Koroma says he is giving back to the Good Shepherd Community Primary School, which is where he started his early schooling.
Bishop Abu Koroma said that he is what he is today because of the Good Shepherd School where he started his schooling in 1965 and that is why he will never forget good the Shepherd School.
The Bishop explained that he was driving home from work one day when he saw the school in a very bad shape. That was when he decided to change the roof and also repair the black board.
It cost a lot of money he said, but that does not matter as long as the kids are in a good environment.
Bishop Abu Koroma also revealed that apart from attending the school he was born in Congo Town and so he had an obligation to contribute to the development of the community. He has also promised to provide tables and benches for the pupils.
Apart from the Good Shepherd school Bishop Koroma disclosed that he has also helped in the development of a school near by Cape Sierra Hotel where they wanted to destroy the school which has been operating for several years now, and that he went all out to see the former President to make sure that the school is not brought down.
He said they in Flaming have made their humble contributions to many development issues in the community. When there was a fire incident at Ascension Town he said, they went there to help the victim with clothes, zinc roofing sheets and food items. They have also provided taps for many communities in Freetown.
The head of the school Mr Henry Alusine Milton Vincent gave a brief history of the school, which he said was opened in 1961 by his Aunty for people within the Congo Town community who were constrained to attend school by then.
He said when is Aunty died he took over the school in 1994 with 9 children and they were paying one thousand Leones (Le1,000) as fee per term but now they are paying 25 thousand Leones (Le25,000) per term and the school can boast of 80 to 100 pupils now with Nursery 1 to class 3.
With all the constraints he said they are holding their thanksgiving service, sports and other activities.
He revealed that apart from Bishop Dr Abu Koroma other prominent people like late President Joseph Saidu Momoh attended the school and that is why they are very happy for Bishop Dr Abu Koroma who identified himself only after secretly changing the roofing of the school.
He called on other past members of the school to come on board to assist the school.
Francess Sesay a past member of the school said that they are very happy for Bishop Dr Abu Koroma for the step he has taken to put the school in a very good shape after a very long time.
A parent of the school said during the rainy season their kids do not attend school because when it is raining they will have to seek shelter in Mr Vincent’s apartment which is very close to the school until the downpour ends, when they will go back and resume their classes.
This has been the pattern until the intervention of Bishop Dr Abu Koroma, and now they are sure that more people will send their kids to the Good Shepherd Community Primary School.
Councillor in the community Thomas Pearce in his own contribution described Bishop Dr Abu Koroma as a real man of God who knows the need of people in the community.
The parents of these kids he said will always pray for him, so that his ministry will grow from strength to strength and in the new school year more children will attend the school.
