With regards their strides to give equal educational opportunity to less privilege kids, the Helping Hands Foundation which is a non-governmental entity donated learning materials worth over Le 4 Million to 101 pupils.
The donation was done on Saturday 1st October 2016 at Zigo hall in Ferguson Street to primary and secondary school pupils attending schools in the central and western part of Freetown.
The country director Mr Abdul Mansaray (Coach Abdul) said the donation to the pupil’s came as a result of the current economic problems parents are faced with in the country.
“Most parents can’t afford these items for their pupils at this time because of financial constraint. So our foundation looked at what we can do to salvage the situation.”
Mr Mansaray disclosed that the donation package to each of the pupils includes pencils, pens, exercise books; geometry sets, ruler, eraser, pencil sharpner and files.
He added that the foundation through the help of their Executive Director Madam Deborah Carol who is based in Australia will continue to support less privileged kids and that they will donate such items including school fees to pupils who do well in their school work every academic year.
Mr Abdul disclosed that they’ve also established the foundation in Bo district and they’ve benefited a 5-acre land from the people of Damballa village, Felenga chiefdom.
“This is the land we would be constructing our orphanage home, school and a football academy in partnership with Kits Anna Academy in Australia.”
He said most of the pupils who received the donation are under the foundation, adding they usually visit schools within the western part of Freetown to research about less privileged and clever kids.
At the end of their findings he said they will pay a visit to the parents of the kids and inform them that the foundation have interest in assisting their child to get better education.
In conclusion, he said they will be embarking on their end of year activities which includes their first edition Christmas party and sensitization campaign on early marriage, teenage pregnancy and drug abuse in November and December.
