khadijaSeven-year old Kadijatu S. Barrie, a Class II pupil of the Bethel Primary School is a recent discovery of a child with tumour and her situation has worsened as the tumour has taken over half her face.
Little Kadijatu is praying and appealing for a humanitarian organisation, an individual philanthropist or group of philanthropists to save her condition. Doctors say the surgery that can help Kadijatu’s condition can be done only in Ghana as the nearest option. The saddest part of this episode is that her parents cannot afford the cost because they are poor. According to Elvira Macaulay, Kadijatu’s mother, her condition started two years ago following a cowrie shell removal operation done on her. She recalled that the said operation was successful; but that few months afterwards, the eye started swelling and that the condition has never reversed.
Ms. Macaulay said she took Kadijatu to the United Methodist Church hospital, but were referred to the Connaught Hospital, by Dr. Mattia.
At the Connaught hospital, Kadijatu was examined by Dr. Don Davies who concluded that she has developed a tumour in the right eye and the operation required for its removal and cure can be done in Ghana only as the nearest option.
“There is nothing we can do as parents, just hoping that someone somewhere through the grace of God will come to our rescue to save the condition and life of our child,” Ms. Macaulay appealed.
Kadijatu was first spotted by the Association for Women and Children at Risk’ recently during one of their outreach activities in the east of Freetown and through this organisation, Pikin Bizness a non -governmental organisation with interest in the welfare of children is now aware of her condition and the Founder, Dr. Adonis Abboud has consented to help.
Awoko Newspaper is therefore appealing to humanitarian organisations, philanthropists and philanthropist organisations and individuals to help Kadijatu by contributing generously to her surgery and medical expenses through Pikin Bizness.
Saving the life of Kadijatu should be considered as a national responsibility as her condition worsens day in and day out. Any financial help towards this humanitarian concern is not small to support Pikin Bizness transfer Kadijatu to Ghana where doctors say a hope of her recovery lie in a surgery that will remove that life-threatening tumour a little girl as young as seven has been contending with for almost two years now.
