Marie Stopes Sierra Leone (MSSL) officially unveiled a new, client-focused website on Thursday, 23 November 2017. The website is www.mariestopes.org.sl, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a week. There’s also a national toll-free phone line available at 3535. The phone line is also available 24 hours a day and will be answered by a trained nurse or healthcare professional.
According to Dr. Ufuoma Festus Omo-Obi, Country Director, “We wanted create a platform to serve and reach women, adolescent girls and their families. It’s a way of getting information about sexual reproductive health services and products out in a more convenient, timely, unique and personal approach.” He continued,
“Clients, irrespective of their location, can benefit from rich online content as well as enjoy fast track services at any MSSL clinic.” Clients and patients can now book appointments from the comfort of their homes.
The overall objective is to extend the reach of reproductive health care services, information and products and to prevent women from dying due to health related issues. The site includes extensive service and product information to help clients understand MSSL’s complete range of healthcare services and operations.
Marie Stopes strives to prevent unintended pregnancies and abortions. Dr Omo-Obi added that MSSL believes that to have children should be a choice and not by chance regardless of one’s marital or economic status.
Mariama Sielle, a client, talked about the convenience, timely and unique services that the website offers in addressing personal healthcare needs.
Pharmacist Kunle Dehinsilu, spoke on the approaches MSSL uses to reach clients pointing out the mobile clinics in hard-to-reach areas.
From any smart phone with access to the internet, women can get information about sexual reproductive health, book appointments with doctors and nurses, find out where mobile clinics will be set up and stay in touch with the Marie Stopes clinics.
The toll-free phone number, 3535, is serviced by Africell. Arthur Eku Lake, Communication Manager, Africell, informed the gathering that his company support will help enhance MSSL with swift responses and cautioned the public to carefully handle the health care line.
On Thursday afternoon, Hawa Mansaray, a nurse, was manning the 3535 phone line. She very pleasantly answered the phone and provided in-depth information about family planning and back-up contraceptives. She took the necessary information about names and locations. Lake, from Africell, said the service is confidential and reflects the company and organization’s commitment to supporting healthcare in Sierra Leone. SV/23/11/17
