Between 7 March 2018 and19 April 2018, it was alleged that the former Deputy Minister of Works under the All People’s Congress (APC) government, Kadija O. Sesay stole a Toyota Land Cruiser worth a little over $75,000 USD. The vehicle was a government vehicle.
At the Siaka Stevens Street Magistrate Court in Freetown, on Friday 20 July 2018, Detective Police Constable (DPC) attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Andrew Konneh, tendered documents relating to the alleged vehicle theft involving the Deputy Minister.
During his testimony on Friday, the DPC who was attached to the Government Vehicle Recovery Unit, said they received a tip that the Deputy Minister had stolen the government vehicle. He said after obtaining a statement from the witness, they invited the accused to the CID. She was cautioned and questioned.
He said the investigation team was able to access certain documents, which included Road Safety Vehicle Owner Registration Card, a copy of the Ministry of Transport and Aviation document in respect of the vehicle, and a copy of the Government of Sierra Leone Toyota Land Cruiser Serial Number. The documents were produced for identification. The witness further tendered in evidence the charged statement they obtained from the accused.
The defence briefly cross-examined the witness. The court adjourned the matter for further cross-examination. The Deputy Minister is currently on bail. The matter was adjourned to Tuesday 24 July 2018.
