Sierra Leone News: For assault on police Lebanese granted Le5m bail

A Lebanese business man Ahmed Hassim of 51 Hangha road in Kenema has been granted bail in the sum of five million Leones (Le5,000,000) plus one surety to be approved by the court when he made his second appearance in the magistrate court number two in Kenema before the presiding magistrate Samuel Koroma on one count charge of assault on police contrary to section 39 of the police Act of 1964.
Earlier on Monday 11th July 2016 the same accused person appeared before the same magistrate on the charge of failing to use protective crash helmet while riding along Hangha road in Kenema. He pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to one month imprisonment or pay a fine of one hundred thousand Leones, while he was then sent to remand for the count of assault on police constable 12279 Ibrahim Gadiru Jalloh attached to the traffic department of the Kenema police division.
The mater was prosecuted by police constable 15361 Thomas Vunjah from the Legal Justice and Support Department of the Kenema police station and the matter adjourned to the 20th July 2016.
In another development, an Indian businessman Samaijeck Kalhari of 91 Hangha road was yesterday fined one hundred thousand Leones when he pleaded guilty for traffic offence for not using protective crash helmet while using motor bike along Hangha road when he made his first and last appearance in the magistrate court before the presiding magistrate Alhaji Sulaiman Koroma. The matter was prosecuted by PC 4654 Watta Bakar of the Legal and Justice Support Department of the Kenema police division.
