The principal of Russell Secondary School,  Russell village Joko Venn will appear before Justice Alusine Sesay this morning for one count charge of abuse of office.
The accused is alleged to have changed the names in the list of approved candidates sent to him by the Ministry of Education for the 2013/2014 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The matter was up before the judge last Tuesday during which the third prosecution witness testified.
Led by the defence council, Lawyer Rashid Dumbuya, the third prosecution witness, Arnold Basie Kamara who is a senior staff at the West African Examination Council (WAEC) said on the 17th of January 2014, the ministry sent a list of the candidates that it had approved to write the said exam.
He added that the accused was to enter the said names into the batch registration software that WAEC gave to the school, stating that the accused was warned to go strictly by the list sent from the ministry to him.
He noted that when the accused sent his own list to them at WAEC, they noticed a variance between the names in his list and those sent from the Ministry.
“When he sent his list to the council, we discovered that though the number we have was the same with the one we received from the accused, there were some names on his list which were not in ours”, he stated, adding that the number of candidates was 275.
He furthered that the accused never reported that he was faced with challenges during the processes of entering the names into the software.
The matter will come up today at the Guma Building for C. F. Edwards, the defence counsel to cross examine the witness.
