Sierra Leone News: EYE forum train teachers on HIV/AIDs in Kenema

A local Non-Governmental organization Eye Forum has ended a two days training for teachers from various secondary schools in Kenema city and its environs on HIV and AIDS at the Kenema District Council old hall along Nyandeyama road in the city. The aim of the training was to undertake school sensitization and the formation of school health clubs at various secondary schools. In his statement the project officer for eye forum Edward Jonathan Dambosays eye forum is an organization that caters for youth and children not to be involved in harmful practices in and out of schools and that was why the organizers targeted school going children inorderto sensitize the children to stop doing harmful practices especially the one thatlead to blood contact. He disclosed that they have held a big meeting with the head of state on the issue of HIV and AIDS, and also they have held workshops in Daru, Segbwema among others. He stated that through their continuous sensitizations coupled with other organizations the virus has been minimized in the community. Dambo stated that their major constraintat the moment is mobility and there are limited staffwithin their organization who receive stipends. He called on all to use condomsat all times and encourage all to do the HIV test for them to know their status. Heappealed to the government to make it a policy for people to go for HIV and AIDS test. Contributing Justin Moses Lebbeh a participant from the Holy Trinity Secondary school in Kenema says he has gained a lot about HIV and AIDS from the training and therefore assured all that he is going to disseminate the knowledge gainednot only in school but also in the communities. He disclosed that he is going to form a club in his school in order to take greater care of the virus and called on all and sundry to test and use condom when having sexual relationship at all times.
