A report by an individual over an entertainment show on SLBC, “We Yus’ said the European Union (EU) has agreed to build the Lungi Bridge for Sierra Leone. While many people believe “We Yus” is a news program, it does not follow the basic tenets of journalism, which includes verifying information and cross-checking facts before broadcast. “We Yus” is a popular gossip program on SLBC hosted by LucyAnn Ganda and Dan Moseray.
The Public and Political Affairs Officer of the EU, Gibril Foday Musa, said, “There is no truth to such information. The report was malicious and intends to create mischief and put the European Union in a bad light.”
The Head of Delegation of the European Union Ambassador, Tom Vens, stated that EU has never discussed such project with any government or individual. He said, “At no time did the European Union made such statements and the public should disregard such statements.
Ambassador Tom Vens called on Sierra Leoneans to stop sending false information to people. He said the time is now for Sierra Leoneans to work together for the good of the nation.
“We will continue to work with the government to help in areas we think important for the development of the country. President Koroma has gone to Brussels to say thanks for all the EU has done for Sierra Leone and they have promised him that the new leadership will continue to receive the support from the EU.
