Twenty-three year old Computer Technician, Victor Davis, a disabled man with one limb, is accused of Fraudulent Conversion and Obtaining Money by False Pretence contrary to the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the Police, the accused, in December 2016, stole a laptop worth Le7.8 million. Also, between January and February 2017, the accused stole another laptop valued at Le4 million from Bala Sesay and Charilaos Koroma.
Additionally, the Police alleged that the accused obtained the sum of Le 800,000 from Bala Sesay pretending that he will install a website in his computer knowing same to be false.
On Friday 19 May, Kanu appeared before Magistrate Binneh Kamara at the Siaka Stevens Street, Magistrate Court, to answer to the offence of Fraudulent Conversion and Obtaining Money by False Pretence. Prior to this time, he had no legal representation, however, lawyer Mike Cuffie offered to represent the accused on pro bono basis since he was a person with a disability. Cuffie applied that the accused be put on bail on the grounds that the Correctional Centre lacks the facility to contain the accused. He cited the scenario of Oscar Pitorious a South African athlete who killed his girlfriend in 2013. The Counsel said he was released from prison because the facility could not accommodate his condition.   Cuffie said though it did not happen within the same jurisdiction as his client, the situation can be applied since the countries are within the same Commonwealth.   Magistrate Kamara granted the accused Le20 million bail. The matter was adjourned to 1 June 2017.
