Continuing with her representation in the local Council, Councilor Aminata Koroma (SLPP) in Kenema district, representing Ward 32 Constituency 011 is on the verge of applying for her Party symbol to contest in the 2018 election.
Councilor Koroma explained she was from the northern region, Buya Romende, Tonkolili District, to be specific but transferred to Kenema as a result of marriage some years ago.
Explaining her reason for going into politics, Councilor Koroma disclosed upon her arrival in the district she realized some men and women engaging in business were being marginalized and discriminated against.
As a way of creating and making their presence felt in Kenema, she engaged her husband and community people on her political intention, which she believes will transform the whole situation to a better one.
According to her it was a very difficult decision at the time she chose to go in as most people were accused of being a spy from the northern political party who will betray the SLPP after gaining power, whiles others were accusing her of being a traitor.
Talking about her contributions to nation building, Councilor Koroma disclosed during the height of the fight against Ebola she bought items worth Le 7 million and distributed within her community people.
“I also established a learning center (syndicate) for Ebola survivors who lost their parents/guardians where they can receive free lectures. It is still in progress,” she said, maintaining that such contribution led to the people calling for her re-election in 2018.
Councilor Koroma disclosed she defected from the APC in 2009 for the SLPP with the conviction that the country will only progress under the leadership of SLPP, which will also lead to political inclusion across the country.
