The presiding Justice of the Bo High Court, M.A.J. Stevens, on 30 June 2018, sentenced John Nabie to one year in jail at a Correctional Centre or pay a fine of Le20 million.
Between 1 September 2015 and 30 September 2015, the convict, Nabie, a resident of Bumpe Town, Ngao Chiefdom in Bo District, solicited and accepted an Le100,000 from beneficiaries of a project called, “Rapid Ebola Social Safety Net” implemented by the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) to ease plights of families affected by Ebola.
Nabie was convicted on four counts of corruption related offences, two of which were Soliciting an Advantage contrary to the Anti-Corruption Commission Act of 2008, as well as two counts of Accepting an Advantage contrary to the Act.
In his judgement, Justice Stevens ordered that the sentence run concurrently and the fines run consecutively.
