Fatmata Bah who was a surety for an accused Umaru Sillah Bah was on Tuesday 8th November 2016 granted a bail of seventy million Leones by magistrate Binneh Kamara of court No.1 in the Siaka Steven Street court in Freetown.
Umaru Sillah Bah was charged with the offence of fraudulent conversion on the 19th November 2015 at the central Police station Freetown. Fatmata was said to have signed on behalf of the latter to produce him before magistrate court No.1 on the 30th November 2015 at 9:00am railed to execute such a bond.
The defense Lawyer M.P.H Sesay said the accused should be granted bail as pursuant to section 79(2) & (3) of the Criminal Procedure Act of 1965.
On the side of the prosecutor Sgt 5115 Pundeh .M, he said the accused should be refused bail based on conditions that the accused may jump bail. She said the accused may also interfere with the prosecution witness and that she is unemployed.
Despite of the prosecutor’s appeal for a bail not to be granted to the accused, Magistrate Binneh Kamara however granted a bail of seventy million Leones and two sureties in like sum, and that the sureties to produce national Passports and must reside in the western Area. He also said the sureties must produce a title deed or a bank statement, depicting up to Forty Million Leones. The bail should be approved by the Master and Registrar. The matter was then adjourned to the 17th November 2016.
