
Milla Group Sierra Leone limited one of the leading Plastic Manufacturing Company in the country over the weekend organized a cleaning exercise targeting the Fisher Lane, Kissy old road, Black Hall Road and the Main Baureh Road where the company operates to complement government efforts in keeping the city clean.
According to the Coordinator between Milla Group and the Fisher Lane Community Francis Abu the cleaning exercise is aimed at cleaning drainages for free flow of water during the rains to avoid flooding and other disasters.
He said several households within the community usually dump their waste on the streets or in drainages where bacteria and other diseases breed which eventually causes many ailments among inhabitants.
He added that Milla Group provided logistics for the cleaning exercise and also hired a dump truck for the immediate disposal of the waste cleared.
He explained that Milla Group provided rain boots, dust mask, hand gloves, rakes, shovels, head pans and wheelbarrows for effective cleaning of the community.
Hundreds of youths among them women and adults drawn from the community participated in the cleaning exercise the company also provided food and drinks for those involved in the cleaning exercise and plans are underway to continue the cleaning exercise
He added that the company also recently donated water tanks for the storage of water for community use, donated building and learning materials to schools within the community as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR).
Anthony Davis Consultant for Milla Group Environmental Project said cleaning of the communities where Milla Group operates is part of the development drive of the company to keep communities clean for healthy living. He said the cleaning is to prepare the community to avert flooding and other anticipated disasters during the rainy season.
He said the company also undertakes best practices in protecting the environment and they also recycle plastic waste that are dumped on the street in a bid to keep the city clean
He said the company usually recycle two tons of waste plastics daily deposited on the streets in Freetown and urged the community people to always clean their environment for a healthy living.
Senesie Mansaray Financial Secretary for the Fisher Lane Community expressed profound thanks and appreciation to Milla Group for the cleaning of the community and urged residents to desist from disposing garbage in drainages and on the streets to avoid flooding in future.
Idrissa Mansaray one of the residents of Fisher Lane community applauded Milla Group for addressing the critical needs of the community they operate.
He added that the Milla Water Tank is also helping the community to get close access to water, which is usually stored at the Tank.
Fatmata M. Koroma, a trader resident within the community also commended Milla Group for supporting the cleaning exercise as most of the drainages were clogged and piles of garbage scattered all over the community.
He called on residents to always keep the environment clean for a healthy living.
The Chairlady of the community Zainab Kamara said in the past water was a very big problem in the community but since Milla Group donated the water tank for storage of water helping residents to get clean water.
Alimamy Kamara, one of the youths cleaning the community, said he and his colleagues voluntarily participated in the cleaning exercise and called on Milla Group to continue with their good work to promote development within the community.
