An 11-year old, class 4 pupil of the Sierra Leone Muslim Brotherhood (SLMP) primary school in Kenema, (name withheld), was found hanging in an unfinished room in a building off Fasay Street in Kenema. Suicide is suspected.
According to his mother, she cannot explain what went wrong with her son that led to his death. Some of his friends said they cannot explain what happened and why he would commit suicide.
Rumours going around Kenema indicate that the young student killed himself because he was provoked about failing his promotional exam to class five.
Kenema Police were informed and rushed to the scene. The boy’s body was taken to the government mortuary and his family were questioned at the Police Station.
According to the police, the young boy used a thin rope from a mosquito net to tie around his neck. He tied the rope to a roofing frame and climbed a ladder.
This is not the first time for a child to commit suicide in Kenema. Similar incidents have occurred in the past when another 11-year old boy hung himself in his room at B-Line at Nyandeyama new site. A class five girl at Holy Rosary primary school also hung herself in her room at Akash Drive.
