China Kingho Management has said that the welfare of their local staff in their exploration sites in the North and South of Sierra Leone is a premium.
China Kingho has employed many Sierra Leoneans at their exploration sites providing them with improved conditions of service for both the skilled and unskilled.
Some of the workers are provided with accommodation at the camp site, a decent bed, mosquito tents and sheets, wool blankets to keep them warm.
The rooms are also equipped with refrigerator and wall fans and 24hrs of water and electricity is also provided by the company for their staff.
According to the Public Relations Manager of China Kingho Xin Li their local staff is treated well at the camp site during the course of their duties and they are also paid well.
Mr. Li said the company is committed and determined to implementing the Local Content Policy in all their exploration sites and that staff welfare is a priority of the company.
He said workers of the company are treated equally and their human and labour rights also respected by the company.
According to the China Kingho Camp Manager in Tonkolili District Amadu Bangura the company has been striving to do its best to providing basic necessities for their local workers.
Rooms are allocated to local managers, drivers, mechanics, drilling workers and temporary restrooms whilst cooks have their own room just in case they have to stay over and cook for the night shift workers.
A representative of the local workers said, ‘the Chinese never abused any of us and they treat us like brothers because they have worked here for a long time.”
He said “we always get along well with the Chinese workers and we sometimes even play soccer together if we get to complete our scheduled work on time.”
He added that Chinese Doctors periodically conduct checks our health conditions regularly and they are treating us well.
He said as a camp manager “the safety of our workers is a top most priority of the company.”
However, the Camp Manager said at the beginning of the exploration because of culture and language barrier many people had misconceptions but after a while everything just started to flow naturally.
He said over-time workers are also entitled to get an extra salary and the injured at work are usually taken to Massagna or Magburaka Government Hospital by the company.
Some of the workers said they are provided with three meals a day which include Breakfast, lunch and supper and there is also a recreational center for their staff.
