ChildFund, yesterday, Tuesday donated large quantities of medical items to the First Lady Sia Nyama Koroma at the Presidential Lodge, Hill Station. Making the donation, the Country Director, James Pimundu, said ChildFund has been working with the Office of the First Lady over the years because of the passion she has for women and children. “We were fortunate to receive all these medical items from our partners and we were very happy to get them in Sierra Leone and to hand them over to the First Lady for onward transmission to the hospitals.” Pimundu averred that the items were loaded in nine containers and they did not have warehouses to keep them. Responding, the First Lady Koroma said she was not surprised to have received the items as for a long time now ChildFund has been working with her. “In fact, last year when we organized our Christmas Party, ChildFund was very instrumental as they supported us big time. So for them to have come again this time with so much medical items I am not surprised but will continue to thank them for their support to us.” First Lady said the item were stored At the Quay when she was given a warehouse free of charge and thanked the individual for that as well as the military that helped in transportation. She said thousands of beds, wheelchairs and other items were in the containers and she will hand them over to the Ministry of Health for distribution across the country. Sia Nyama Koroma said the military too will benefit from these items and hope they will go a long way to help in the hospitals across the country. Deputy Minister of Health II, Zuliatu Cooper, said they have come at the right time as many hospitals are being built and the beds will be used well. The symbolic handing over was made to the First Lady and she was shown some of the containers that have been taken to the President’s Lodge for safe-keeping.
