In the wake of the mudslide and flooding disaster, Bollore Africa Logistics has demonstrated its cooperate philanthropy as one of the multi-national institutions that went into action by providing food and non-food items worth over one hundred million Leones to the flood and mudslide victims at Morteme, Kaningo and Pentagon communities respectively.
Bollore being a team spirited company responded to the call of it land lord the Sierra Leone Ports Authority by contributing a whooping sum of thirty million Leones (Le.30, 000,000) to a basket fund initiated by their land lord and thereafter presented on Wednesday 23rd August, 2017 the sum of one hundred and fifty million Leones (Le.150, 000,000) on behalf of the port community to the Vice President Dr. Victor Foh as a consolidated contribution to the government towards it relief effort.
Following release of the figures of missing persons and houses consumed by the disaster by the office of National Security (ONS) Bollore group through it country office arrived at a decision to continue exhibiting it human face by making yet another donation towards the construction of houses for the victims by government.
The country manager of Bollore Transport and Logistics Captain Fabjanko Kokan on Friday 25th August,2017 presented a Cheque of half billion Leones on behalf of the group to President Koroma in a closed door ceremony held at state house.
Speaking to newsmen after the presentation, Captain Kokan said as a responsible company they felt obliged to follow the disaster relief and recovery process and provide the required support to government as and when required.
Recounting on previous crisis interventions, Captain Kokan noted how Bollore contributed one billion six hundred and fifty two million Leones(Le.1,652,000,000) during the period When the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) struck Sierra Leone and left the nation in deep shock as to how to respond to a disaster of such magnitude, especially as the country’s medical sector was caught napping.
The Freetown Terminal Limited, a subsidiary of Bollore Africa Transport and Logistics which is engaged in giving an ultramodern phase lift to the country’s sea port by investing one hundred and twenty million dollars ($120M) to extend the port project.
The Government – knowing that dealing with a national disaster as dreadful as Ebola at the time would require the collaboration of all Sierra Leoneans, not least the international community – set out to galvanise both human and material supports to confront and defeat the common enemy. It was no less a personality than the President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, who led the national call and social mobilisation efforts that were geared towards rallying the required resources and personnel to lead the EVD fight like he is doing in the case of the Monday 14th August mudslide and flooding disaster.
It was such a call that Bollore Africa Logistic, a French logistics company that manages the operations of the national Port is heeding to as it did during the Ebola scourge.
