The Paramount Chief of the Kakua Chiefdom, Prince Lappia Boima on Friday called an emergency meeting of all Traditional Healers in Bo at his Ngalu Road Native Court Barri. Without wasting time he declared to the assembled Traditional Healers that “your services are very important.” He accepted the services of the Traditional Healers “irreplaceable” and “like that of doctors.
That not-with-standing, he also took the time to explain to the Service men in Native Medicines in Sierra Leone a brief history of the inception of the Ebola disease in Sierra Leone. According to him, he told the Healers that “it is believed that the Ebola disease was brought here through a Native Healer when an Ebola sick patient was brought to him for healing.” Because of the crucial role of Traditional Healers, he asserted that they did not only help to spread the disease but that they also have “suffered it.”
In frankness, he explicated to the Traditional Healers that “you even risk your own life.” His said his admiration Traditional Healers was enormous but that as this sickness is a new sickness in Sierra Leone “You need to hold on for now.” He underscored that traditional healers were not trained on Ebola and that the best for you could be “prevent yourselves from a sickness that is killing even Medical Doctors in Sierra Leone.”
On behalf of the Traditional Healers, the Secretary General Jonjo stated that “We have accepted your call our PC.” He clarified that the Healers do not hold any reservation particularly based on the “reality we do not know about Ebola.” He said he would make sure that the message is relayed to all healers in the region.
