Resident Minister South, Muctarr ContehResident Minister of the Southern Region, Muctarr Conteh in an interview yesterday on Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation Television, debunked a press release from the District Ebola Task Force.
The Press Release, which was signed by the Task Force Chairman Joseph Munda Bindi, Mayor Harold Tucker, Bo District Chairman Council of Paramount Chiefs PC Alfred Hindowa Bindi and the District Medical Officer, Dr Alhaji S. Turay on November 5, the Resident Minister told the people of Bo “ that this is fake and in fact not authentic.”
The Southern Resident Minister, clearly stated that the release “was passed by just a handful of persons” with some major Stakeholders not involved.
He maintained that he as the Resident Minister was the Chief Head of all that happens within the four Districts of the region and that any document about his district not copied to him is “unbelievable.”
He even went on to expound on the multiple problems that would occur, if there was an immediate closure of the district to outsiders.
The district and the country as a whole, he maintained, was going through “tough times” and that a sudden decision like this “would not be fine.”
As Resident Minister of the Southern Region, he therefore told the people of the district to go about their normal business as before.
If there was going to be any lock-down of the District to outsiders, he told the eager people, the district of that “you would be given prior notice.”
Chairman Joseph Munda Bindi told Awoko that “indeed it has been cancelled by higher authorities” above him.
Meanwhile, the two-page document was passed by the Bo District Ebola Task Force and the District Ebola Response Committee-DERC. The release called for the sudden closure of all the entrances to the District of Bo.
The Task Force highlighted the reasons as to why the district could be closed off to outsiders.
The District, they spelt out, has recorded the highest number of 74 Ebola confirmed cases in October alone, leaving “many possible contacts.”
