The Annie Walsh Memorial Secondary School (AWMSS) on Friday 10 December held their Annual Nine Lessons and Carol service and also the retirement of Senior English teacher, Mr. Stephen Pujeh at the school’s chapel in Freetown.
The program was graced by pupils of the Annie Walsh Memorial School, teachers, principals and well-wishers who in their various capacities showered praises of hymns and read lessons from the holy bible about the significance of the birth of Jesus Christ and why Christmas is celebrated on 25th December.
Hymns like ‘hark! The herald angels sings, while Shepard Watched their Flocks by Night, Away in a Manger, Come all ye Faithful, Once in Royal David City’ among many others, were gloriously sang with angelic voices of the pupils and their teachers.
It was a glorifying moment as they raised their voices with songs of proclamations and praises, celebrating and commemorating the birth of Christ as Lord and Savior of the Christian faith.
Guest Pastor, Emmanuel Sahr of International Church of Salvation preached that Jesus Christ was the messiah sent by God to redeem man from his sins, stating that between Malachi and Mathew it was 400 hundred years difference and between that period God did not speak to man nor send any message because of their sinful ways until the birth of Christ.
In that regards Pastor Emmanuel told the pupils that Christmas celebration is not the time for Christians to indulge in any sinful act that is not good for Christians such as drinking and partying in the name of celebrating the birth of Christ.
He encouraged the pupils of Annie Walsh to live righteously in the presence of God, stating that, “if you worship God in a decent way with truth and faith you will experience God’s presence in your life”.
While celebrating the carol service, the management and pupils of Annie Walsh bade farewell to Stephen Pujeh, senior English and Literature teacher as he retires from active teaching after 42 years.
Mr. Pujeh started his teaching career at the Methodist Primary School, Ngolahun Bongere Kailahun District in 1973 and the Annie Walsh Memorial School in 1999.
Stephen Pujeh was highly acknowledge and praised by the Principal, Ophelia Morrison, Vice Principal Sylvia Scott, colleague teachers, pupils and parents for his active and dedicated teaching service not only to the school but the entire country.
The outgoing senior prefect, Marian M.A.N.Y. Sesay described Mr. Pujeh as an educational icon whose inspiration will forever linger in their minds.
Principal and Vice Principal described him as a legend in the academic world as he has trained and taught many young women who have become successful in life and they will forever be grateful to him for his meaningful contribution in the educational sector.
“We are celebrating a long dedicated, committed and excellent service of Mr. Stephen Pujeh who has autographed his work with excellent service and we are indeed proud of you and you are our great mentor”.
Mr. Pujeh emotionally expressed his satisfaction that indeed he has contributed to the development of humanity and proud to have taught at the Annie Walsh, noting that it was a great experience. He called on the pupils to continue to be steadfast in their education.
