Sierra Leone News: As prosecution closes case… 17 Witnesses testify against LAC

In the ongoing trial for the murder of David Sydney Buckle Jr. alias DJ Cleff, the prosecution on Monday closed their case against popular and renowned herbalist Baimba Moi Foray alias LA Chocolate, Avril Oreh Renner and Foday Amara Kamara alias G Fag.
According to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Sulaiman Bah 17 witnesses including the security officer attached to LAC testified in the proceedings, which started on 17th September 2015, presided by Justice Alusine Sesay.
Baimba Moi Foray alias LAC and Avril Oreh Renner were on 3rd of July 2015 charged with conspiracy to commit murder and murder while the 2nd accused Foday Amara Kamara who was on the run for over a month was captured in Kono and was charged on 2nd September 2015 for the same offences.
Before closing their case, the Prosecution called their last witness Detective Police Constable (DPC) 8709 Ibrahim Sorie Kamara (PW16) and Detective Inspector (DI) of Police Umaru Finnay Kamara (PW17) who read the voluntary statements made by the accused during their interrogation at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
According to the police detectives the investigation was handed over to them from a missing person to murder and since then has conducted thorough investigations that warrant the arrest and charges of conspiracy to commit murder and murder against the accused.
Detective Umaru Finnay Kamara while reading the statements of Foday Amara Kamara (2nd accused) explained how he was apprehended in Kono and brought to Freetown for further investigations and also revealed the accused behavior prior to his arrest which implicated and led to his charges despite his denial.
Responding to prosecution’s closing statements both defense counsel Ismael Phillip Mammie and Pious Sesay told the court their clients had consented to elect themselves to stand in the witness box and testify stating that the accused are not calling on any witness to testify on their behalf but rely on their testimony.
DJ Cleff was allegedly murdered in May 2015 and his corpse was found along Murray Town Cemetery road after being declared missing for some days. He disappeared few days before he was discovered after attending a birthday party organized by the 3rd accused Avril Oreh Renneh held at the premises of LAC at Aberdeen in Freetown.
His body was later exhumed for identification at the ebola burial site at waterloo.
