Sierra Leone parliament, showing vacant seats supposed to be occupied by MpsBefore Members of Parliament (Mps) proceed on their regular vacation, Hon. Paramount Chief (PC) Joseph Alieu Kongomoh of Moyamba district has urged his colleague MPs to inform their constituents about the good work of President Koroma.
The Chief made his appeal during the debate for the approval of Mohamed Pateh Bah as Executive Director of the National Youth Service, Mrs. Amy Elizabeth Green as Member Corporate Affairs Commission, and Mr. Ibrahim Sorie Kamara as Deputy Executive Director National Youth Service on the 20th July, 2016, all of whom were appointed by President Koroma.
Hon. PC Kongomoh said he usually asks himself what is the focus of President Koroma when appointing people into positions of trust, “for me I see President Koroma preparing the stage for a better future.”
He said the personalities that President Koroma is appointing shows that he means good for this nation and “there is very good light at the end of the tunnel”.
“President Koroma is doing what we expected. He is transforming this country for a better Sierra Leone”, Hon PC said.
“In 18 month to go we may be experiencing a change in administration in this country so we recognize that the incoming president will do the will that the present leader is doing.”
Hon. Leonard Fofanah for his part said “most of the nominees are qualified in different ways; age is on their side and the President deliberately appointed them because they are experienced and familiar with the issues”.
“The President looked at people who are qualified and competent to do certain jobs without considering the party he is supporting. This goes to the credit of the President because he has appointed Mohamed Pateh Bah who had run for the highest position in this country under the National Democratic Alliance and has been a party leader. He is not a member of the All People’s Congress but President has appointed him to serve this nation”, he said.
Hon. Ibrahim Ben Kargbo said “President Koroma is a successful leader. We in the APC are proud that we made no mistake in ensuring that he became the leader of the country.”
He said the determination of creating a sense of synergy among the citizenry is also responsible for his (President Koroma) appointment to ensure that every part of this country is represented in the governance of this country.
“Since we started screening and approving nominees of the presidency, no part of this country can say that we have been left out.”
“For me who was adviser and still adviser I know his method of appointment. He takes into consideration youth, region, gender, among others”, Hon. Kargbo said.
Among the people appointed and approved by this present Parliament are Madam Bernadette Cole ,Member of the Sierra Leone Teaching Service Commission Col.(Rtd). Alie Brima Yamba Kamara, Member Environmental Protection Agency of Sierra Leone; Mrs. Fatmata Sorie, Member Sierra Leone Teaching Service Commission, and Mr. Alfred Jumah Osman Fornah, Member Income Tax Board of Appellate Commissions.
Others appointed and approved are Dr. Christiana Thorpe; Deputy Minister of Education Science and Technology, Momodu Lamin Kargbo; Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Major Rtd Alfred Palo Conteh; Minister of Internal Affairs, Dr. Kaifala Marah; Governor Bank of Sierra Leone, Miss Mabinty Daramy; Ambassador to Guinea, Miss Rugiatu Neneh Turay; Deputy Minister of Social Welfare Gender and Children’s Affairs, Major-General John E. Milton; Chief of Defence Staff among others.
So far, Parliament has not disapproved of all the presidential nominees that have been referred to them for approval.
