Sierra Leone News: As Magistrate commits matter to High Court…Accused cries of being set up
As Magistrate Albert Moody of Magistrate Court No.2 commits a matter of sexual penetration of a child aged 16 to high court, the accused Mohamed Alie Kamara cried that he was set up. The accused denied the allegation stating that for the past two years he has not been in speaking terms with the victim. He said his accusers had threatened to trouble him. He added that there was inconsistency in the testimony of the mother, noting that the time they alleged that he deflowered and impregnated the child does not tally with the date she delivered the baby. “Her testimony was hearsay,” he argued. The accused went on to say that the first person the complainant accused of being responsible for the child’s pregnancy was released claiming that “his file is still with the police.” The Magistrate in his ruling said he was satisfied with the evidence presented by the prosecution and was therefore ordering that the matter be committed to the high court. He furthered that the accused be admitted to his previous bail condition of thirty million Leones (Le. 30,000,000) with two sureties. By Edna Smalle Monday February 08, 2016
