The presiding Magistrate at the Siaka Stevens Street Magistrate Court in Freetown, Santigie Bangura, has on Tuesday 26 June 2018, granted Le150 million bail to three alleged armed robbers.
The accused, Mohamed Kanu alias Abass, Santigie Bundu alias Tigie Bolo and Alimamy Turay alias COC, on 15 April 2017 at the National Petroleum, one mile filling station, Marampa Chiefdom in Port Loko District allegedly robbed five people of cash and items worth over Le20 million.
It was alleged that during the operation, the accused were in possession of machetes and a rifle with ammunition. They were charged with seven counts charges. Five of them have to do with Robbery with Aggravation while the remaining two counts are Carrying Offensive Weapons without Lawful Authority contrary to the Public Order Act; and Possession of Small Arms without License contrary to the Arm and Ammunition Act.
It was one of the defence counsels who made the bail application. Although the State Prosecutor objected to the application, the Magistrate granted the said application and adjourned the matter to 9 July 2018.
