Ebola prevention kits worth over thirty million Leones (Le30,000,000) were yesterday donated by the Anglican Diocese in Freetown to six primary schools in Western Area.
The items included thermometers, hand wash, sanitizers, latex gloves, veronica buckets, waste bucket and Aqua tabs, were contribution from the Holy Trinity Wall Street, New York. The schools that received the items were Bishop Crowther, St Philips, Holy Trinity, Cathedral Primary School, Christ Church and St John Primary School.
Making the donation on behalf of the Church, Dean of the Anglican Diocese and Commissary Canon Emmerson Thomas said they are saddened about the ebola outbreak as it has taken away many lives of Sierra Leoneans including medical doctors, children and teachers.
He said even though government and World Health Organisation had declared the end of the virus, it has raised its ugly head again but that they pray it will not ravage the country again.
Canon Emmerson Thomas maintained that even when the ebola has ended the teachers and pupils should continue with the prevention methods especially the hand washing exercise.
The Dean thanked God for ending the scourge in the country and the government for their role in the fight.
He called on the head teachers to maintain good health practice and to be protective.
The Head Teacher of the St. Philips Primary School, Ms Alice Kamara thanked the Anglican Diocese for the gesture as the donations are timely. She said it is very necessary for the teachers and pupils to take preventive measures.
She promised that they will use the gift for its intended purposes and continue with the prevention practices, as this will bring development and progress to the school.
