The long awaited need for furniture at the United Methodist Church Primary School at George Brook Dworzak was addressed on Wednesday 25 October 2017 when members of the alumni association presented the school with tables and chairs.
According to the Head Teacher of school’s morning shift, Ernest K. Yamba, they have had seating problems for a very long time adding that at the beginning of the school year, they applied for furniture from the Freetown City Council but they were not supplied.
Addressing the pupils and teachers, the Chair of the alumni association, Martin Sandy, said we are here to give back what we benefitted. When we visited the school last year, we realised after our visit that there was no seating accommodation.
The 50 tables and chairs will be used by class one pupils. In addition to the furniture, the alumni association further present a scholarship of Le200,000 each to five pupils of the school. Their academic performance and their level of need were considered during the selection of the beneficiaries.
Sandy said the organisation was established one year ago. “we will come again to help most of you.” Sandy encouraged the pupils to work hard and to take care or the furniture.
One of the beneficiaries is Hannah Joseph, a physically challenged class 6 pupil. She expressed gratitude to the donors stating that she had not paid her dues for the National Primary school examination. Through songs and rhymes, the pupils expressed gratitude; promised to work hard and take care of the furniture.
