At about 2:00 a.m. on 19 November 2017, in the Fourah Bay community, in the eastern part of Freetown, Foday Kamara alias “King” with other persons unknown allegedly robbed Joseph Freeman and George Davies of items worth over Le15 million.
Kamara was arrested by the police and charged with Conspiracy to Commit a Felony and Robbery with Aggravation contrary to the Larceny Act of 1916.
In his testimony before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at the Siaka Stevens Street Magistrate Court in Freetown on Tuesday 19 June 2018, Freeman said, that night, he heard a bang at the door of his house. The accused, together with other unknown men, entered his residence with machetes, and long knifes and threatened to kill everyone in the house.
Freeman said the accused and his accomplices took away some valuable items from his house including wedding rings, a gold chain, and Le5.5 million in cash, among others. He said following the raid, the accused locked them in the house and went away.
Another witness who preferred anonymity also testified on behalf of George Davies. The witness said that same night, the accused together with three others entered into their house in the same community with sharp objects in their possessions. They demanded money from them and stole items, which include her wedding ring.
The witness said one of the accused attempted to rape her but a member of their team stopped him.
Both complainants reported the matter to the police in the morning. The complainants later identified the accused after the police arrested him.
The Magistrate, after hearing the testimony of the witnesses, refused bail and sent him on remand at the Correctional Centre in Freetown. The accused Foday Kamara had no legal representation. The matter was adjourned to 26 June 2018.
