Shekuba Suma, Sahr Mboma, Abdul Conteh, Abu Bakarr Kamara, Ibrahim Kargbo and Keshi Koroma, 1st – 6th accused, respectively, are accused of breaking into the Sewa Ground Market construction site store, on Howe Street, on April 17 2017. It is alleged they stole 46 bags of imported cement valued at Le2,415,000.
The accused were arraigned before Magistrate Albert Moody of Court No. 2 on the 19 May 2017. The accused were charged with Conspiracy and larceny.
According to the complainant at the construction site, Su Kaidu on the 17, April, at 10:30 a.m. he discovered that thieves had broken in to the construction site store and stole 46 bags of cement. Kaidu said he reported the theft at the Victoria Park Police Post.
The investigator, Detective Police Constable (DPC) A. Sambo, said himself and a team of detectives visited the construction site store. He said the alleged thieves travelled with the cement into the Cathedral School compound through a hole under a zinc fence.
DPC Sambo said they went to execute a search warrant at the Drivers Union Office at Charlotte Street. They saw 10 bags of imported cement, five bags of clothes and one vehicle tire.
Magistrate Moody granted bail to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd accused in the sum of Le30 million each. He granted the 5th accused bail in the sum of Le40 million. The Magistrate discharged the 4th accused and granted the 6th accused “self-bail”.
Magistrate Moody said some of the police investigators are not doing their job properly. He said there was no need to charge the 4th and 5th accused. He said the 5th accused is just an errand driver at the Drivers Union Office.
The Magistrate said if the police had wanted to arrest, they should have arrested the boss at the Union stating that the 5th accused is a junior worker and only acted on instructions from the bosses at the Union.
The Magistrate adjourned the matter to 24 April 2017.
