Magistrate Abou Bhakarr Binneh Kamara of the Freetown Magistrate Court No.1 on Tuesday granted the accused Abu Bakarr Kamara in an alleged embezzlement matter, the sum of one hundred million Leones bail.
The accused was charged with two counts of embezzlement by the police contrary to section 17 (i) (b) of the larceny act of 1916.
According to one of the defense lawyer while making her application for bail, J.B Kamara said that “the accused is a Sierra Leonean and has credible sureties, to stand on his behalf that will ensure that he comes to court in any adjourned date.”
The lawyer furthered that her client is a family man who has a pregnant wife and “I will admonish him not to interfere with the prosecution witnesses,” J.B Kamara averred.
Police Prosecutor inspector Bah did not object to bail but drew the Magistrate’s attention to the quantum of money involved in this alleged matter.
According to the prosecutor the quantum of money involved is over eighty million Leones.
After listening to both the defense and the prosecutor, Magistrate Binneh Kamara announced that “bail is granted to the accused in the sum of one hundred million Leones (Le 100,000,000), two sureties in the like sum, sureties to produce national passport or a title deed or a bank statement depicting up to eighty million Leones, and bail is to be approved by the Master and Registrar” Magistrate Binneh averred.
The particulars of offence stated that, the accused on Saturday 30th April 2016 in Freetown embezzled the sum of fifty five million Leones worth of Africell electronic voucher received by him on account of one James Mansaray. Further more on the same date and place, the accused embezzled the sum of thirty eighty million, four hundred thousand Leones worth of Airtel electronic voucher received also by him on account of James Mansaray.
The matter was adjourned to Tuesday 23 August 2016.
