As Sierra Leone marks fifty-three years of independence on Sunday, 27th April this year, Airtel will join in the celebrations by playing the national anthem as ring back tune to all its subscribers. The company will also hoist replicas of the country’s national flag (green, white and blue) in fifty-three locations across the country.
The Acting Managing Director of Airtel, Apu Das said as a responsible corporate institution, they intend to synchronize fifty-three of their locations across the country by hoisting of the national flag in each of these locations.
He also said that the company will distribute small flags to school pupils on Independence Day. He said the objective of this is to instill values and virtues of patriotism and nationalism in younger children of the country through the national anthem played through mobile phones and distributing national flag replicas.
He said during the celebrations, the company will engage local councils and other stakeholders on fruitful discussions relevant to information and technology.
Mustapha Katta, the Brand and Marketing Manager said love and respect for the national flag and national anthem should be promoted among children and youth as a form of mentorship towards nationalism and patriotism.
He said subscribers with ring back tunes will utilize the National Anthem ring back tune in their phones free of charge as they make and receive calls on Independence Day on Sunday, April 27, 2014.
The Deputy Minister of Information and Communication, Theo Nicole officially launched the Airtel Independence promotion with the display of a replica of the Sierra Leone National flag.
