Staff of Airtel-Sierra Leone have out of concern and philanthropy offered to donate one-day salary to the cause of fighting the Ebola pandemic in the country amounting to Le 70, 000, 000 (seventy million Leones).
The Ebola virus since its outbreak two months ago has claimed the lives of close to seventy people mostly in the Eastern province of the country.
The gesture according to Jestina Betts, Head of Human Resource at Airtel-Sierra Leone is to demonstrate love and care for the people of Sierra Leone, as she noted the misery the virus has caused to many families in the country.
Madam Betts said staffs of the country’s leading mobile service provider as empathetic to the sufferings of affected persons and their families and that the only way they can express their emotions is to sacrifice a day’s salary each towards the cause of fighting the completely curtailment of the Ebola virus in the country.
In a related development, the parent company of Airtel-Sierra Leone has also announced a donation of Le100, 000, 000 (one hundred million Leones) towards the Ebola fight in Sierra Leone.
Airtel has in the recent past donated mobile phones to health workers, created a website portal for updates on Ebola information and is currently working side by side with AWOL to intensify sensitization and distribution of hand sanitizers.
The Managing Director of the mobile giant company, Sudipto Chawdry is committed and determined to make available whatever within the reach of the company as far as it relates to the Ebla fight.
During a recent dinner at Radisson Blu, the Airtel MD inspired many guests to make financial pledges to an anti-Ebola basket fund and it generated a whooping Le 40, 000, 000 (forty million Leones).
The new Airtel Managing Director has so far demonstrated his love for Sierra Leone through this passionate innovation that will generate extra finds for government to help mitigate the Ebola spread.
