Over 200 youths stormed the Labour Minister Mathew Teambo’s office yesterday requesting for over Le 3Billion, alleging that the Minister had given permission to the businessman to chop.
This demonstration took place at the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, New England.
Rangers Manpower Solutions Limited is a business entity which was registered by the Administrator-General’s Office, the National Revenue Authority, Freetown City Council, to carry out their business of recruiting Sierra Leoneans to work in Canada, Australia and the Middle East. Firstly, over 210 youths had registered with Le25m, respectively.
The aggrieved youths closed the main door of the Ministry and put some labour workers under serious threat, saying that they will not leave the office until the minister shows up.
They were standing outside with placards, some of which read, ‘Why Sierra Leone Always?” “Yesterday it was wealth builders and now Rangers Manpower Solutions”: “219 passports with over 3 Billion Leones at large”. “Where are we heading as a country”?
Speaking to one of the distressed youths, Abu Harry Sesay, he said according to their visa, over 20 of them are supposed to travel today but they cannot because the head of Rangers Manpower Solutions Dr. Biamungu Patrick had absconded.
Over four ladies were shouting that they are ready to die for their monies ‘The government cannot provide services for us to live comfortably, which is why we want to leave the country to another for solace.’
They said some of them had done odd jobs to raise those monies, so they will not sit down and allow other people eat their money with impunity.
The unhappy youths who were busy going up and down the ministry in search of the Minister, said that they are doing a peaceful demonstration but nobody is saying anything alleging that the minister is in hiding because he is aware about the duping.
They brandished a letter dated 25th March 2014, issued by the Minister of Labour and Social security, Doctor Mathew Teambo, giving permission to Rangers Manpower Solutions Limited to operate.
They also alleged that they met the Chief Security Officer at State House and he promised to discuss their issue with the President but now anytime they call him, he would slam the phone down. The Ministry of Labour are not taking our issue seriously. ‘They are waiting for us to kill somebody and then start shouting all over the place,’ they said.
One Obai Conteh, who was the personal assistant to Patrick, said there are some people that are supposed to leave office because of this issue, stating that how can a man claim to be a business man without proper verification and is given Team Number: 1049061-2.
Assistant Superintendent of Police in charge of New England, Alusine Kamara cautioned the aggrieved youths, stating that they should peacefully channel their complaint to the police.
He said they should not go beyond the confines of the law, adding that it is indeed a serious matter.
He promised the over 200 youths that he will get the minister to talk to them after they had gone through the actual policing process.
