The police tribunal court at Ross Road Police Station, yesterday, Wednesday 8 November 2018 released three officers after serving 20 days in detention. The Inspector General, Munu, ordered their immediate release on condition they appear at the Tribunal today.
Their release came two days after media publications and human rights activists raised concerns over the period of their detention.
The message granting the three defaulters bail was received with mixed feelings especially by family members of the 3rd defaulter, Mac Koroma, who according to them, had lost one of his family members, after his wife was reportedly sick but was unable to attend to his family nor his wife medical status.
The 1st defaulter, Sergeant Josiah, said his family were finding it difficult to survive during his detention and that of the daily running of the family.
The tribunal, which was supposed to continue hearing on Tuesday 7 November after it was adjourned the previous day, never sat as a result of a request by the prosecuting team alleging working on a search for more witnesses to the matter.
After being released, the three defaulters said they are innocent of the matter for which they are standing trial at the tribunal. They said they respect the rule of law and that of the police code which according to them, they are fully aware of and that, they will continue to uphold it.
The Ross Road police tribunal was setup to determine as to whether the three service officers, Sergeant Josiah the medical doctor at the Police Training School (PTS), Police Constable Charles and Constable Mac Koroma, are guilty or innocent of; Neglect of Duty and lack of supervision, harboring and Permitting the escaped of a suspect.
The presiding officer, Inspector Ibrahim L. Moseray, adjourned the tribunal for tomorrow Thursday 9th November 2017.
