Sierra Leone News: Africell launches Ramadan bonanza

Africel launched its Ramadan Bonanza at their head office in Wilberforce on Saturday 27 May 2017.
In his address Mr. A. Gabisi, representing the Managing Director, said, “Africell recognizes and respects all faiths in the country as well as respecting humanity, because anything that improves the life of Sierra Leoneans not just their customers they will come on board.”
“The Company appreciates the holy month of Ramadan and has observed the teachings of forgiveness, mercy and prayers for the lifeafter. During the month of Ramadan, Africell promoted and encouraged the Islamic communities of Sierra Leone to recite the 99 Names or virtues of Allah and their meanings; Prayer Duah of the day and to read the Holy Quran.
The Chief Corporate Affairs of Africell, Joe Abass Bangura, said, “In line with our proud tradition of always being at the cutting edge of technological innovation in the industry, Africell will mark this event, for the first time in Sierra Leone, with the switching on of its symbolic Ramadan Crescent Moon. Islam emerged in Arabia from where it travelled along the desert trade routes largely by night, and navigation depended upon the position of the moon. The moon in Islam thus represents the guidance of God on the path through life.”
Bangura averred that Africell Ramadan Show 2017 — Gives our subscribers the opportunity to win over Le500 million. To participate in the show, Africell subscribers should send a blank SMS to or call 777 to automatically qualify for the electronic draw for that day.
He said every blank SMS sent or call made to 777 will incur a charge of 650 Leones, but subscribers will be awarded a bonus credit of the same amount (Le650), which must be utilized before 12 midnight on the same day.
“Non Africell subscribers can take part by purchasing a new SIM card loaded with Le410 talk time and 2 SMS at a cost of Le500. As soon as the SIM is registered and the subscriber sends their blank SMS or calls 777, they will get two chances on the draw for that day.”
The Chief Corporate Affairs Manager said, “Subscriber’s chances for winning increases with every blank SMS or call made to 777. He continued, all cumulated chances will however lapse at the end of each day of participation and a live draw will be held from Mondays to Saturdays between 10:00 pm and 11:00 pm effective yesterday Monday 29th May up to Saturday 24th June 2017.
Africell will broadcast live on AYV TV with simultaneous broadcasts on all AlRadio and major radio stations nationwide. The studio theme for the show will be made up of 42 STARS on the left side and 30 MOONS on the right side and a sliding door in the middle. During the draw, qualifying numbers will be randomly drawn electronically in the studio.
“On selection of a number, the subscriber’s phone will be dialed then prompted by the presenter to choose from one of 30 serially numbered MOONS. The prizes to be won at this stage include: freezers, televisions, generators, ITel 3G++ phones, gigabytes of data and minutes of talk time and cash prizes.
Ministers of government including: Nanette Thomas, Mohamed Bangura, Cornelius Deveax and the Member of Parliament for the Wilberforce area Hon. Chernor Bah were all present and a host of Muslim men and women were able to pray and break the fast.
