AFFORD Business Center, a project under AFFORD Sierra Leone has completed a two days training on Business Planning for 49 students from Njala University at their Bo campus.
The training which was held recently brought together 23 female and 26 male students from the departments of Banking and Finance, Accounting, Economics, Sociology and Social Work.
In his opening statement, the Head of the Economics Department, Dr Sandy welcomed the AFFORD Sierra Leone team to the University and admonished students to take the training seriously as it will help them in their academic pursuit and teach them to become not just good employees but successful employers as well.
Addressing the participants, AFFORD Sierra Leone’s Technical Director, David Berthalomew informed them that the purpose of conducting the Business Planning training is to change the mindset of students to start thinking of creating their own businesses.
He admonished the participants to pay attention to the training and actively participate to benefit more from the exercise.
Students were trained in several topics including, Entrepreneurship, Components of a Business Plan, Market Research and Financial and Resource Analysis. A key feature of AFFORD Sierra Leone’s Business Planning training is its focus on practicality rather than theory.
Kutimi Bangura, an Accounting student was very pleased with the training and explained that she is already thinking of a business idea that can transform her into an entrepreneur.
The two days training ended with a short assessment test for participants, followed by the distribution of certificates done by Mrs Bumi Adeyemi, Mr Bobson Margai and Mr Lavalie Tshombe, all lecturers at the School of Social Sciences, Njala University.
Dr Kapuwa rendered his sincere appreciation to AFFORD Sierra Leone team for a job well done and appealed for such training to be regularly conducted for students at the university.
