On 11 May 2018, Mohamed Lamin Bangura was alleged to be found with three cutlasses in his possession at Ecowas Street and threatening to kill complainant Fatmata Binta Bah and her son Alhaji. The accused was charged with threatening language by the Sierra Leone Police.
On Thursday 28 June 2018, the accused appeared before Magistrate Hannah Bonnie of the Freetown Magistrate Court No. 2 onSiaka Stevens Street, and is on bail. Testifying in court, Detective Police Constable 13856 Charles Bartholomew attached at the CID unit at Central Police Station said on the date in question he was on duty when a case of threatening language was reported.
The witness said together with the complainant and Dectective Sergeant 9306, they visited the scene of crime on Ecowas Street, where they spoke to some people who said the accused was carrying three cutlasses and threatening to kill the complainant and her son.
Bartholomew said they went to the station and obtained statements from the complainant and the witnesses, adding that the accused was later invited to the police station. He maintained, “On 28 May 2018, together with Sergeant Mansaray, he cautioned and questioned the accused.”
The witness said they granted the accused self-bail and ordered him to report everyday at the Central Police Station. “He failed to abide by our order, until a warrant of arrest was issued out for him. He was eventually arrested on 5 June 2018.”
The matter is being prosecuted by Sergeant 955 Dwight McCarthy and the accused is being represented by H. Ahmed. Magistrate Bonnie adjourned the matter to 4 July 2018.
