The Siaka Stevens Street Magistrate Court is doing preliminary investigation into an alleged case of dynamite explosions and attempted murder.
On 25 May 2017, Ibrahim Turay fired explosive dynamites at the Aberdeen Bridge. He was arrested by police officers attached to the Aberdeen Police Division in Freetown and charged with five offenses contrary to Section 12(1) of the Explosive Amendment Act of 1974 as well as the Offences Against a Person’s Act 1861.
According to the police, Turay was found in possession of dynamite and that he used the dynamite contrary to the Explosive Act. In addition to that, the accused attempted to murder a police officer and two others by suffocating them. This is contrary to the Offences Against a Person’s act. The police stated that a police patrol boat chased the accused but he threw sticks of dynamite at them.
On Friday 3 November 2017, at the Siaka Stevens Street Magistrate Court in Freetown, the prosecution led in evidence their third witness. The witness, the Exhibit Clerk attached to the Aberdeen Police Station DPC Samba Mansaray, tendered a two sticks of dynamite, an empty match box and an old, brown purse.
The matter was adjourned to 8 November while the accused remain on a Le50 million bail.
