Magistrate Abdul Sherriff on Wednesday 16th October, 2019, remanded Ibrahim Turay of Fonima, Goderich to the Male Correctional Facility on Pademba Road in Freetown. Turay is charged with Sexual Penetration of a child contrary to Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act No.12 of 2012 as amended in 2019. Sergeant A.B. Sesay alleged on Friday 9th August 2019, in Funkia, Goderich in Freetown sexually penetrated an 8-year-old child. In her testimony, the victim said that she recognized the accused in the dock as her neighbour. She said one day she was going to fetch water and the accused gave her a bucket to fetch for him. She said after fetching the water she took it to the accused. She said she took the water inside his room and the accused collected the bucket and put her on his bed, took off her pants and raped her. After, the accused told her to go and wash herself up. She said he also threatened to throw her inside the well if she told anybody about the abuse. She said the next day at night; they were having an all-night prayer at their house. She was coming from taking her bath with her friend, Boima. She said when Boima went inside her house; the accused was sitting on a bench outside the house.

Then, he grabbed her hands, forced her to the bench and sexually penetrated her again. The witness said she was sick; her face was puffy and pale. The grandmother asked her what was wrong and she told her what the accused has been doing to her. She said the mother then reported the matter to the Adonkia Police Station. The accused, a building contractor denied the allegation to the police and said he never sent the victim to fetch water for him. The Grandmother told police that on Sunday 11th August 2019, she discovered urine with blood inside their toilet container. She said when she asked the victim, she told her that the accused sexually penetrated her when she went to fetch water at his place.nAccording to Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act No. 12 of 2012 as amended in 2019 states “A person who engages in an act of sexually penetrating a child commits an offence and is liable to a conviction of life imprisonment” The case was adjourned to 21st October 2019.
