In April 2011, Unisa Ibrahim Jalloh was accused of embezzling Le196 million worth of fuel from an NP filling station in Freetown. The accused was a salesperson at the time and was charged with Embezzlement by the Sierra Leone Police.
Jalloh has spent seven years in prison, without a trial, because he could not satisfy the original bail requirements. Jalloh was given bail in 2011 at Le200 million and two sureties. “I had nobody that came forward to bail me, as all of my relatives are staying in Waterloo. It was very difficult for me to meet the bail conditions at that period.”
On Monday 18 June 2018, the accused appeared before Justice Reginald Fynn of the High Court of Freetown.
According to Justice Fynn, “I noticed the accused has spent a long time in custody without trial and I will review your bail conditions.” Justice Fynn reduced the bail conditions to Le100 million and one surety. He also ordered Jalloh to surrender all travelling documents. He must also report daily at the Criminal Investigation Department.
Justice Fynn adjourned the matter to Monday 25 June 2018.
