Between 1st November and 16th November 2018 at the Presbyterian Elementary School, Murray Town, in Freetown, 25-year old Kandeh Dumbuya allegedly sexually penetrated a 6-year old girl. The accused was arrested and following police investigations, he was charged with Sexual Penetration of a Child contrary to Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act No.12 of 2012. Dumbuya appeared at the Siaka Stevens Street Magistrate Court, before Magistrate Abdul Sherriff on Tuesday 22nd January 2019. The charge was read in Court but the accused was not allowed to respond and make a plea. The young victim was present in Court to testify. She could not explain the details of the rape so the Magistrate instructed the prosecutor, ASP Moses Moore, to have a proper conference with her. The defence counsel, H.K. Allen, applied for bail. The Magistrate adjourned the matter. The accused was remanded to the Correctional Centre in Freetown. The trial will continue on Wednesday 23rd January 2019.
