The National Tourist Board has released its 2013 figures, showing an impressive increase of 36% over the 2012 figures of Tourist/Visitor arrivals at the Lungi International Airport.
The figures show that 81,250 tourist/Visitors passed through the Lungi Airport during 2013 as against 59,730 of the same category who passed through in 2012.
Of the 81,250 some 34,821 indicated on their arrival forms that they were coming into the country for business. This is 11,202 more than the number who came in for the same purpose in 2012 (23,619).
Some 11,187 indicated they were coming to visit friends and relatives (VFR) showing a drop of 2,887 from the 14,074 who came in 2012.
Some 13,338 visited for leisure purposes, which showed an increase of 3,874 over the 9,464 who visited for similar purpose in 2012.
7,318 came for conferences, which is an improvement of 1,284 over the 6,034 who came in 2012. This figure is expected to further rise in 2014 because of the additional room spaces and conference facilities.
The biggest growth was in the category of people who came for other reasons other than as tourists or visitors coming to see friends and families; for business, leisure or conferences. This group more than doubled from 6,539 in 2012 to 14,586 in 2013 showing an increase of 8,047.
