High Court Justice Momoh-Jah Stevens, on Monday 28th October 2019, sentenced a 50-year old man to five years in prison after he pleaded guilty to sexually penetrating a 14-year old girl. According to the State prosecution, the man worked as a gateman of one of the schools in Freetown. He repeatedly had sexual intercourse with the underage victim, who was a pupil of the school, throughout May 2019 and got her pregnant. On Monday, the defense counsel from the Sierra Leone Legal Aid Board, Morrison Karimu, pleaded with the judge to grant the convict a second chance. The State counsel, Jenneh B. Kamara, urged the Judge to use the maximum sentence as per the 2012 Sexual Offences Act. Justice Stevens however sentenced the accused to five years in jail.
