Sierra Leone U-17 Female National Team has lost 3-0 away to their Gambian counterpart in the first round, first leg preliminary encounter of the World Cup qualifying round to be staged in Azerbaijan from 22nd September to 13th October this year.
The match was played at the Bakau Independent Stadium last Saturday. The Gambians went into the lead in the first half and netted their second and third goals in the second half.
The second leg match will be played at the National Stadium on 4th February, 2012 with the Sierra Leone side now faced with the difficult task of overturning the result at home.
The Public Relation Officer of the Starlets, Alieu Bockarie explained that the visitors played very well in the first half of play but slopped in the second half. He indicated that fatigue may have caused the defeat especially as the last two goals were scored in the last ten minutes of the game.
