The number of visitors who entered the country by air for the first six months of 2017 have dropped significantly when compared to the number who entered the country during the same period in 2016.
According NTB figures for January 2017 to June 2017 some 23,648 people came in by air. This shows a perceptible drop of 7,117 from 2016 numbers where it was recorded that 30,765 visitors had entered through Lungi airport.
When calculated that those visitors on holidays will spend $80 per day; those visiting friends and relatives – $40 per day; those attending conferences – $70; business people about $90, with other categories spending $60 per day it was calculated that an estimated $11.5million ($11,573,170) will have been brought in and spent on accommodation when estimated that each of these air passengers stay over a one week period.
This shows a drop in revenue of $4.3 million ($4,311,160) from 2016 when it was $15.8 million ($15,884,330).
When estimates are made for monies spent on Food,
Transport and Souvenirs for business people $250, Holiday makers $200, Visiting Friends and Relatives – $120 and Others $150, it shows that $16.1 million ($16,137,130) came in as revenue. However this shows a drop of Le5.9 million ($5,900,200) over the 2016 estimated revenue figures of $22 million ($22,037,330).
