Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – The Sierra Leone Basketball Federation (SLBF) is set to host a three-day ‘Say No To Kush/Drugs’ basketball gala in Kenema Town from December 15th to 17th, 2023. This initiative, organized in collaboration with multiple sponsors and partners, underscores the federation’s commitment to combating drug abuse.
Under the leadership of Alie Hijazi, the SLBF aims to unite and advance the sport’s development. As the national governing body tasked with promoting and popularizing basketball in Sierra Leone, the federation is taking a proactive stance against drug abuse in the country.
The three-day gala is designed to utilize basketball as a platform to communicate and raise awareness about the perils of drug abuse, particularly focusing on Kush. The federation intends to leverage the sport’s prominence to highlight the dangers of substance abuse and deliver a crucial message to the community.
“We aim to use this initiative to not only increase awareness regarding the hazards of drug abuse but also to build resilience and offer support to those impacted by substance abuse,” stated an SLBF representative. “By merging sports with education, our goal is to impart vital life skills, advocate for healthy choices, and empower individuals to make informed decisions.”
This collaborative effort brings together various organizations committed to driving positive change and growth. Through this partnership, the SLBF aims to alter the narrative surrounding basketball, utilizing it as a recreational tool to combat drug abuse in Sierra Leone.
