Sierra Leone Archery Association President Yayah Koroma said the association started in 2017 “Having gone through the required procedure, in 2017 upon the non-voting that was passed by the World Archery Federation during congress in Mexico and also an acceptance by the National Olympic Committee, the Sierra Leone Archery Association became a member of the World Archery Federation,” he said.
“Immediately after we became a member of the World Archery Federation, we started to plan how best we can develop archery in Sierra Leone and therefore we developed a five year working plan which is going to be our document for the next five years; this is going to be our pathway towards the development of archery in Sierra Leone.
“The five year development plan has three strategic paths: the first path is to structure and develop the sport; the second is high performance and excellence; and the third is building a sustainable future. We are in the first path which is to structure and develop the sport and that is why we actually engaged the National Olympic Committee for them to come to the aid of the Sierra Leone Archery Association to have a program like this. It’s because of the vision of the president of the NOC and his executive to ensure that we have more sports.”
The President continued, “Immediately we had the approval of the International Olympic Committee, we contacted the World Archery Federation who provided us Development and National Sports Structure (DNSS) headed by Marja Eva Woortman in Namibia.”
Koroma also confirmed that they are not going to participate in any competition at present, and that they are busy structuring and developing the coaches and athletes, as they are a new sport.
