Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – Sierra Leone Aquatics (SLA) exemplified the spirit of generosity and solidarity on Thursday, March 28th, 2024, as they continued their tradition of Ramadan donations by distributing cash packages to their swimmers, technical team, and staff.
The event, held at the SLA headquarters on 66 Krootown Road, Freetown, saw 19 swimmers receiving Le500 each (equivalent to half a bag of rice), while 3 technical team members and 7 staff members received Le1,000 each (equivalent to one bag of rice).
Chaired by SLA’s Public Relations Officer 1, Reginald Brian O. Sawyerr, the ceremony was marked by statements from Secretary General Abdul Turay and President Mohamed Abdul Turay. Both emphasized the distribution as a cherished tradition within the SLA family, underscoring the organization’s unwavering commitment to supporting its athletes and staff during the significant religious period.
President Mohamed Turay expressed, “This is a way for us to show our appreciation for the hard work and dedication of our swimmers, technical team, and staff. We understand the challenges of observing Ramadan and Lent, and we hope this support will help you focus on your training and well-being.”
SLA’s gesture underscores their dedication to fostering a cohesive team environment while providing essential support to their members during crucial religious observances.
Olamiday Elizabeth Sam, a female swimmer set to represent the country in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, along with Head Coach Abib Kamara, conveyed heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the Sierra Leone Aquatics Executive Committee for their consistent commitment and support towards their welfare, on behalf of all athletes.
