The Sierra Leone Produce Marketing Company (SLPMC) has donated 300 bags of 25kg nerica rice to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation as its contribution to the fight against Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).
The presentation was made by the Director of Operations at SLPMC, Ahmid Kabba who described the EBOLA outbreak as a national crisis, which needs the collective responsibility of every Sierra Leonean in the fight to contain the deadly virus.
He revealed that his company had earlier donated 100 bags of rice for distribution, to farming communities in Kenema District, noting that the EBOLA crisis has affected farming activities in the district.
Receiving the gesture, the Deputy Health Minister II, Madina Rahman expressed gratitude to the management of SLPMC for the gesture, which she described as an invaluable treasure in the fight against the deadly virus.
She maintained that the outbreak of the disease in West Africa is also a serious cause for concern in the International community, which is why both Africa and the rest of the World should collectively join in the fight to eradicate the deadly virus.
Madam Rahman said the bags of rice will be distributed to those involve in the fight. She commended SLPMC for earlier distributing rice to farming communities in Kenema, as they are badly affected and cannot continue with their work, to provide food for the local market.
Meanwhile a top level executive from the International Non- Governmental Organization’s (INGO’s) paid a courtesy call on the deputy minister of Health 1, Foday Sawi Lahai, to re-establish continued partnership and commitment with the ministry, and to work collectively as a team in the fight against the EBOLA outbreak in the country.
