The re-elected Secretary General of the SLPP Jacob Jusu Saffa has accused the Resident Minister South, Musa Tarawallie and Deen Magona of taking thugs to Ward 323 in Sorogbema chiefdom ahead of the Local Government Bye- Elections.
Saffa made these allegations at a press briefing at their party headquarters yesterday while outdooring their new executive.
Saffa said with the support of the police, SLPP supporters were beaten and intimidated with live bullets being used. “Also, the APC thugs carried with them machetes. As at now, there are reports of at least five casualties severely wounded.
Some of the wounded are being treated at Zimmi Health Centre” he stated.
Residents in the area are reported to have been fleeing their homes and running into Liberia as a result of gunshots which have destroyed the peace and quiet of the Zimmi area.
A resident who has asked not to be named says that the incident started three days ago when an aspirant for the PMDC was said to have declared for the APC.
The Chairlady for the SLPP is reported to have been wounded and was over night taken to Kenema for treatment.
A motorbike is said to have been burnt down and up to last evening gun shots are reported to have been heard in the area.
A senior police officer confirmed the reports to this newspaper last night explaining that he had got reports of a “skirmish” in the area.
He says the Regional Commander South has been contacted and it is not likely the Police will sit by and let such an incident escalate to the proportions it is now being alleged.
